Top 5 Ovulation Facts and Myths You Need to KnowTweetKnowing when you are ovulating is crucial in determining when the best time to get pregnant is. In this article we’ll be taking a look at some of the most common ovulation facts and myths. Ovulation is the process your body undertakes to deliver a new egg into the uterus. The 12 hours following ovulation provide the best chance of getting pregnant that you will have all month. It’s important to know the signs of ovulation as well as all the common ovulation facts and myths. #1. Ovulation MythI’m not pregnant if I don’t experience implantation bleedingImplantation bleeding is caused by the egg burrowing into the lining of the uterus. This can cause some bleeding or spotting in some women. This is often mistaken for an early period as it will occur a week or two before your next period would have. Implantation bleeding looks different than regular bleeding though and is usually sparse and darker in color. This doesn’t occur in all women though. You won’t necessarily experience implantation bleeding even if you are pregnant. Not experiencing implantation bleeding doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t pregnant. #2. Ovulation MythOvulation can be accurately predicted by using cervix position aloneLike cervical mucus, the position of your cervix can sometimes be used to determine when ovulation is occurring. The position and even the feel of the cervix can be a strong indicator. Closer to ovulation your cervix will become softer and will be much higher in the vagina and it will begin to open slightly. While cervix position can often be a tell-tale sign of ovulation, it can be extremely difficult to check for most women. Your bladder can actually make your cervix change position which can often cause a false positive or false negative. #3. Ovulation MythIf I’m not seeing any cervical mucus then I must not be ovulatingCervical mucus can change a lot during the course of your menstrual cycle. It can change in thickness and clarity throughout the month. Once the mucus becomes clear and sticky it’s likely that you are close to ovulation or currently ovulating. However, not all women experience the phenomenon of cervical mucus. Just because you aren’t seeing any mucus doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t ovulating. The mucus is normally used by the body to protect and help the sperm reach the reproductive tract. If you aren’t experiencing any mucus you can use pre-seed lubricants to provide an ideal environment for the sperm. #4. Ovulation MythIf I don’t experience any pain then I’m not ovulatingNot all women experience pain when ovulating. Also, women who do experience pain during ovulation sometimes won’t always. Pain isn’t necessarily an indication of ovulation. If you aren’t experiencing any pain it doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t ovulating. Not only that, but you may experience pain and not even be ovulating at all. Pain is a poor indicator of ovulation. #5. Ovulation MythAll women experience some pregnancy symptomsThis isn’t even close to true. There are many women that don’t experience any pain or other symptoms at all during early stages of pregnancy. You could easily be pregnant without ever knowing about it. Taking a pregnancy test is the only sure-fire (99.99% accurate at the very least) way to know if you are in fact pregnant or not. |
